Elder Dave - April 2, 2025 @ 7PM - Bible Session

Bible Verse Summary and Outline of Teaching is below

Below is an outline following the list of bible verses and their meaning.

1. A Powerful Metaphor: Your Body is Like a Holy Temple

  • Just as we would not damage a beautiful cathedral, we should not mistreat our bodies.

  • Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

  • We were bought at a price and must honor God with our bodies.

2. Honoring God With Our Bodies

  • Treat your body with respect, like a holy home where God lives.

  • Avoid harmful habits like smoking, excessive drinking, and drug use.

  • These habits are like vandalizing God’s temple.

3. Sexual Purity and Respect

  • Sexual immorality damages the temple from within.

  • Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee from such sins because they are against your own body.

4. Caring for the Body Like a Garden

  • Like a garden, your body needs nourishment, rest, and exercise.

  • 1 Timothy 4:8 teaches that both physical and spiritual health are valuable.

5. The Dangers of Gluttony and Overindulgence

  • Overeating and drinking are forms of disrespect to the temple.

  • Proverbs 23:20-21 warns against gluttony and its consequences.

6. Stewardship and Responsibility

  • Our bodies are treasures God has entrusted to us.

  • We must care for them with the same attention we’d give to a king’s gift.

7. A Lamp for God’s Light

  • Your body is like a lamp that shines when it’s clean and clear.

  • Sin clouds that light and keeps others from seeing Jesus in you.

8. Christ’s Sacrifice Gives Us Value

  • Jesus died for both our souls and bodies.

  • 1 Peter 1:18-19 reminds us of our great worth through Christ’s blood.

9. The Need for Rest

  • Even God rested; so must we.

  • Matthew 11:28 offers rest to the weary and overworked.

10. You Are Wonderfully Made

  • Your body is God’s masterpiece.

  • Psalm 139:14 shows that each of us is fearfully and wonderfully made.

11. A Call to Shine

  • Matthew 5:16 tells us to let our good works reflect God’s glory.

  • A healthy, clear-minded life helps others see Christ in us.

12. Substance Abuse Pushes God Away

  • Harmful substances cloud our minds and keep God out.

  • Isaiah 59:2 and 1 Peter 5:8 warn us to stay clear-minded and sober.

13. False Peace vs. True Peace

  • Substances offer fake comfort, but God offers true peace.

  • Philippians 4:7 says God’s peace surpasses understanding.

14. Addiction Makes Substances Your Master

  • Matthew 6:24 warns that you cannot serve two masters.

  • We must let God, not substances, rule our hearts.

15. God Offers Healing and a New Start

  • 1 John 1:9 promises forgiveness if we repent.

  • Repentance removes the barriers that block God’s presence.

16. Real-Life Testimony of Transformation

  • The speaker shares a personal journey from addiction and emptiness to healing and purpose.

  • God used people to speak truth and love when the speaker had no hope.

17. God’s Plan is Full of Hope

  • Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us of God’s good plans for us.

  • Even in brokenness, God offers a future and a hope.

18. Renewed Mind and Purpose

  • Romans 12:2 says God can renew our minds.

  • A renewed mind leads to a renewed life.

19. Encouragement to Choose God's Way

  • You are not too far gone; God can restore you.

  • Choose to keep your temple clean and trust in God’s strength.

20. Final Reflection and Call to Action

  • Ask yourself: Is my body a temple or a mess?

  • Choose to glorify God with your body, live in freedom, and let your light shine.

  • You are worth it—and God’s Spirit deserves the best.
