Persevering in the End Times Sermon Series Overview
Over the past eight weeks, the sermon series titled "Persevering in the End Times" has been taught to remind believers of what God expects during a period of global turmoil and chaos.
Faithful living, standing firm, and walking according to God's ways rather than worldly desires are presented as the core expectations for believers during this period.
Luke chapter 21 verses 25 through 36 serves as the foundational scripture, describing signs in the sun, moon, and stars, distress among nations, and the coming of the Son of Man in power and glory.
Believers are instructed to look up and lift their heads when these signs begin to occur, as their redemption draws near.
The parable of the fig tree is referenced to illustrate that just as budding trees signal the nearness of summer, visible signs signal the nearness of the Kingdom of God.
The Call to Spiritual Vigilance and Watchfulness
Jesus's command in Luke 21 verse 36 to "watch and pray" is clarified as not referring to tracking current events or making end-time predictions, but rather to maintaining spiritual vigilance over one's own heart.
Remaining in a continuous posture of prayer is presented as the intended meaning of Christ's command to watch and pray.
Believers are warned not to allow their hearts to be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, or the cares of this life, lest the coming judgment arrive unexpectedly.
The end times are described as bringing spiritual, emotional, and physical turmoil upon the earth, and believers are urged to stay connected to Christ as their source in order not to be left behind.
Standing before the Son of Man is explained as living in a state of faithfulness rather than attempting to earn salvation through perfection.
Signs of the End Times and Current World Conditions
Fulfilled prophecy is identified as visible in real time through rumors of wars, pestilence such as COVID-19, the outbreak of Ebola, and other events beyond human control.
Economic instability, including a declining stock market, rising interest rates, and high gas prices, is acknowledged while affirming that Jesus remains king and seated on his throne.
Perversion and moral decline are described as being at unprecedented levels, with people displaying shameless behavior publicly and on social media.
The majority of the church today is described as spiritually asleep and failing to understand its major role during the end times.
Believers are called to repent, turn from wicked ways, and stop playing church, instead becoming the voice of God and an example to the world.
The Antichrist System and the Role of Technology
Last week's message addressed the system of the Antichrist, showing how current events are unfolding in real time to prepare the world for that system.
The world is described as being programmed through various means so that when the Antichrist steps onto the scene, a ready-made system will exist for his benefit.
Technology is identified as a tool for gathering information from human beings and feeding it into databases to understand how people think and react.
Artificial intelligence is described as a trending and future-defining topic that will play a major role in end-time prophecy by enabling the Antichrist to track every human being on earth.
Believers are urged to be concerned about their standing before God and before men in light of these technological developments.
The Importance of Prayer and Intercession
Asking the Holy Spirit to lead in prayer for others is presented as a regular spiritual discipline, illustrated by praying for parents observed during school drop-off.
Christians are described as often being selfish by only praying when tragedy occurs, whereas the command of Christ is to pray in season and out of season continuously.
Outward appearances can be deceiving, as people who appear happy and social may be inwardly crying out for something, which is identified as Jesus Christ.
When God reveals a need or a situation to a believer, it is not meant for gossip but as a call to pray and to act on that need on God's behalf.
Prayer is presented as a natural conversation with the Holy Spirit, comparable to the ease with which people carry on conversations with others.
Evangelism and Spreading the Gospel in Daily Life
End-time anxiety among people in the world is identified as an opportunity for believers to spread the gospel, offer hope, and reintroduce others to who God is.
Many believers miss evangelistic opportunities because they are too caught up in their own emotions and feelings.
Practical acts of service, such as bringing a meal to someone who is struggling financially, are presented as potential divine appointments where God can intervene in a person's life.
Breaking bread with others is described as a biblical command that creates space for God to work in people's lives.
Believers are reminded that the person they are speaking to may be on the verge of losing everything, and that one act of kindness or generosity could make a critical difference.
Letting Go of Offense and Unforgiveness
Holding onto offenses and maintaining mental files of past wrongs done by others is identified as a barrier to being used by God effectively.
Since Jesus died for everyone, believers are challenged on why they remain penned in by insecurity and unforgiveness toward others.
Moving out of the way and releasing offense allows God to use believers in ways that would otherwise be impossible.
The world is in chaos and in need of Jesus, and believers cannot afford to let personal grievances prevent them from being instruments of God's love.
Living Righteously and Holily Before God and Others
Believers are called to walk holy before God and before men, setting a standard that reflects Christ in every environment and not only within church walls.
The behavior displayed on Sunday should be the same behavior visible at the gas station, in the workplace, and in every other setting throughout the week.
God takes note of how people treat others in everyday interactions, including service workers and strangers, and believers are expected to look beyond poor treatment and respond with grace.
Living recklessly by being moved by emotions rather than by God's reality leads to consequences that believers often fail to anticipate.
Believers are reminded that God's grace and mercy are the reasons they are still living, and that grace should not be taken for granted as it will not last forever.
Disconnection from Technology and Reconnection with Relationships
Smartphones are identified as a major source of distraction that has replaced family time and disconnected people from meaningful human interaction.
The average smartphone carries approximately 25,000 bacteria, making it a health concern that people overlook while being overly cautious about other surfaces.
Couples and families are encouraged to put down their phones and be fully present with one another, as genuine connection and affection in long-term relationships is increasingly rare.
Practical expressions of love such as holding hands, opening doors, and protecting a spouse are presented as countercultural acts of faithfulness in a disconnected world.
Touching and prioritizing a spouse should be valued more than the constant attention given to a phone, as a spouse is irreplaceable in a way that a device is not.
Intentional Living, Discipline, and Personal Order
Changing one's life toward God begins with daily intention, and shifting attitudes, habits, mindsets, and behavior happens one step at a time.
Many believers lack a budget, a plan, a vision, and discipline, and are reminded that as of May 31st they are entering the second half of the year with many New Year's resolutions unfulfilled.
Discipline is described as the key to managing time and responsibilities, illustrated by the practice of mowing the lawn on Sunday to start the week in order rather than waiting until the last minute.
Organizing one's life, paying bills on time, and maintaining personal order are presented as reflections of character and as prerequisites for God to trust a person with greater responsibilities.
Before God gives deep revelation or a significant task, He first requires that a person demonstrate they can handle the basic responsibilities already before them.
Where God is present, there is order, and believers are expected to treat their living space as part of God's kingdom regardless of its size or type.
Aligning Life with the Teachings of Jesus Christ
Aligning focus, actions, and priorities with the teachings of Jesus Christ is presented as the first step toward meaningful life change.
Jesus grew in favor with both God and men and had a reputation of innocence, and believers are encouraged to adapt similar qualities into their own lives.
Practical disciplines such as going to sleep early to wake up and spend time with God, and reading scripture instead of scrolling social media, are offered as concrete steps toward alignment.
Faithfulness is described as outweighing perfection, meaning believers should not try to earn righteousness through flawless performance but should simply live faithfully and allow everything else to fall into place.
Micromanaging one's relationship with God to the point of losing sight of Him is identified as a danger, and believers are encouraged to trust God's will in matters of home, employment, and family.
God's Promotion of Faithful Local Ministries
A prophetic word shared by Watchman Brandon Bates is referenced, stating that God revealed many megachurches would close or be exposed by the end of 2026.
God is described as planning to promote and accelerate those ministries and pastors who have paid the price through sacrifice and obedience, even when they appeared small or overlooked.
Local pastors are identified as accessible, present, and personally invested in their congregations in ways that distant or prominent online ministries are not.
People are challenged for spending more time promoting ministries of pastors they have never met while taking their local pastor for granted.
God is described as honoring those who have sacrificed out of obedience, and as planning to expose those living double lives who are currently being widely promoted.
